Understanding Anthropometry & Workstation Biomechanics
Proper workstation configuration is critical for minimizing musculoskeletal stress (MSD) during prolonged computer use. Anthropometric data scaling allows us to predict ideal joint angles and seating dynamics based on total skeletal height.
Key Ergonomic Metrics
- Seat Pan Height (Popliteal Height): The chair must be configured so your feet are flat on the floor (or a footrest) with your knees at roughly a 90° to 100° angle. This prevents compression of the popliteal artery behind the knee.
- Desk & Keyboard Height (Resting Elbow Height): When your shoulders are relaxed, your forearms should rest parallel to the floor (90° elbow flexion) or pointing slightly downward (up to 110°). Typing with forearms pointing upward heavily strains the carpal tunnel and shoulder levators.
- Monitor Height (Eye Level): The uppermost bezel of your primary monitor should sit precisely at, or up to 5 cm below, your resting eye level. This prevents forward head protraction and excessive cervical flexion.

This calculator relies on standard proportional anthropometric ratios and is provided strictly for educational workstation planning. Individuals with atypical limb lengths, pre-existing spinal pathologies, or severe nerve compressions should consult a certified professional ergonomist (CPE) or physical therapist.
