Advanced Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator

The Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) compares your waist circumference with your hip circumference. It is commonly used as an indicator of body fat distribution and can provide additional information about abdominal fat and potential cardiometabolic health risk.

What Is Waist-to-Hip Ratio?

WHR is calculated by dividing waist circumference by hip circumference:

WHR = Waist Circumference รท Hip Circumference

For example, a waist measurement of 90 cm and a hip measurement of 100 cm gives a WHR of 0.90.

WHR Risk Categories

Gender WHR Category
Male Below 0.90 Lower risk range
Male 0.90 โ€“ 0.99 Moderate risk range
Male 1.00 or higher Higher risk range
Female Below 0.80 Lower risk range
Female 0.80 โ€“ 0.84 Moderate risk range
Female 0.85 or higher Higher risk range

How to Measure Your Waist and Hips

  1. Measure your waist around the abdomen according to a consistent anatomical landmark, without pulling the measuring tape tightly.
  2. Measure your hips around the widest part of the buttocks.
  3. Keep the tape horizontal and take both measurements in the same unit.
  4. Enter the measurements above and calculate your WHR.

Why WHR Matters

A higher waist-to-hip ratio generally indicates a greater concentration of body fat around the abdomen. Abdominal fat distribution can be associated with increased cardiometabolic health risk. WHR should be considered together with other measurements and health factors rather than used as a diagnosis by itself.

Important: WHR is a screening measurement, not a medical diagnosis. Healthy ranges can vary by population, age, pregnancy status, and other factors. Discuss your individual health risk with a qualified healthcare professional when appropriate.
